About Dr. Melvin G. Barney, Esq.
Shortly after Faith Fellowship Community Church was launched, and Ronn Elmore was selected as the inaugural Senior Pastor, Dr. Elmore contacted his close friend, Melvin G. Barney, Esq., and invited him to move to Sacramento in order to work with the Elmores in ministry at Faith Fellowship. In response to Dr. Elmore’s invitation, Pastor Barney moved his family from Cleveland, Ohio; and beginning in early 2002, when Faith Fellowship was still in its infancy and using the North Highlands Community Center as a worship center, he began working very closely with Dr. Elmore as an Associate Pastor, and as a member of the church’s strategic planning team.
After approximately two years in Sacramento, Pastor Barney left his Faith Fellowship family and moved to Los Angeles, where he focused on building his law practice, and where he ultimately became senior pastor of a church in southern California. This proved to be a training ground for the assignment that God would ultimately disclose to him in the spring of 2015.
In April 2015, while pastoring the church in southern California, and while focusing on his law practice in Los Angeles county, the Lord directed Dr. Barney to resign from the church, shut down his law practice, pack up his home, and move back to Sacramento – in order to assume the role of Senior Pastor of the Faith Fellowship Community Church. This would be a giant leap of faith, because although Dr. MGB was shutting down his law practice, there was no job waiting for him in Sacramento. And although he believed the Lord would promote him to the position of senior pastor, Faith Fellowship had no immediate plans to begin the pastoral search process.
Yet, the Lord had said it. So in July 2015, “Dr. MGB 2.0” was back in Sacramento, and back at Faith Fellowship. And on January 17, 2016, just six months later, Dr. Melvin G. Barney, Esq., was installed by Ronn Elmore, as Senior Pastor of Faith Fellowship Community Church.
Dr. Barney holds a Doctorate in Ministry from the United Theological Seminary, a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, and a M.S. in Industrial Administration (MBA), from the Carnegie Mellon University Graduate School of Industrial Administration. As an attorney, he started his legal career with the Law Office of Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr., worked on the O. J. Simpson “Trial of the Century”, and had the opportunity to become involved with other high profile clients, including Michael Jackson, George Clinton, and Reginald Denny.
Because of the unique purpose and mission that the Lord has for Faith Fellowship, it is truly a match made in heaven. Dr. Barney brings to the table a distinguished set of business, legal, and ministerial credentials; and his kingdom assignment is to utilize these credentials to minister wholeness and restoration to God’s people, to equip the body to be effective ambassadors for Christ, to establish outreach programs in the community that provide food, clothing, shelter, and education for the disenfranchised, and to establish enrichment programs within Faith Fellowship that focus on the development of our personal relationships with Christ, as well as on our interpersonal relationships with one another.
